As 40 Golden legend; or, in latin, Legenda aurea ) or Légende Dorée in French, referred to a compilation of hagiographic accounts gathered by Dominic Santiago ( or Jacobo ) of the Voragine, Archbishop of Genoa, in the middle of the 13th. Initially entitled Legenda Sanctorum ( " Readings on the Santos " ) was one of the most copied books during the late Middle Ages, and even today there are more than one thousand copies of manuscripts. With the invention of the printing press, two centuries later, his reputation had been consolidated and before the end of the century xv appeared numerous printed editions.
